LORD OF DOMINION
Once, after a battle, Nathan returned to the castle for a well-deserved rest and noticed a man next to the parapet wall gazing out over the Tarot Realm with a globe in one hand and a wand in the other. The man was not royalty, and he was obviously not a knight, at least not one that Nathan had ever met before, but something about the man impressed Nathan: The man seemed in dominion of himself. Nathan decided to strike up a conversation with him.
"Hello, friend. I haven't seen you here before."
"I have been exploring the Tarot Realm for a long time and have only recently returned."
"Tell me, what did you like the most about the realm?" Nathan asked.
"I liked the people and the flowers most. I was on a quest, you see. Every person in the realm experiences subtle influences. I have experienced all the subtle forces in the realm and have finally returned to my home here in the castle."
"You have experienced all of the subtle forces of the Tree of Life?" Nathan asked.
"That was the goal of my quest."
"Are you going to become a holy man now?" Nathan asked.
"No, I think I'd rather be the Fool," the man replied.
"Filled with divine madness?" Nathan chuckled.
"There is only one stage left in my quest, my friend. I must cross the border known as The Abyss to experience union with the holy Emanation known as The Crown of Creation."
"Doesn't The Abyss separate the first three holy Emanations from the planes of manifestation? Have you experienced Saturn and the zodiac in Wisdom?"
"Yes, my friend, but there is one final border, one final abyss, that I must cross to reach the Crown. The final goal of my quest is union with the Source of all Creation, with Universal Consciousness."
"You have obviously experienced much during your time away. What is your secret, my friend? How have you managed to get this far?"
"Grit and intelligence and imagination and understanding and commitment are all important, but I have learned that inner Fire is the most important of all. Without it you cannot complete the quest."
Nathan paused for a moment and tried to sense the subtle influences guiding the man. "I'm guessing Mars in Aries."
"I see you are skilled at sensing subtle influences!"
"One of the benefits of being a knight in the Tarot Realm. I, of course, have had much help."

"Well, good luck on your journey. One day you will have the same choice: Be a holy man or a Fool. Since you have had much guidance, I suspect that you will help others before you proceed to the last stage of your journey."
"You might be right. Goof luck on the next stage of your journey, my friend."
"Thank you, my friend."
Nathan was so impressed by the man that he returned to his room and pulled out the Two of Wands from his Tarot deck. The man in the card showed a remarkable resemblance to the man with the globe and the wands, so much so that Nathan wondered if he was experiencing a synchronicity. As he gazed at the card, he remembered that the decan correspondence of the Two of Wands is Mars in Aries. He chose the Two of Wands as the central card as well as The Tower, which represents Mars, and The Emperor, which represents Aries, as modifying cards.
Then Nathan got ready to create an artificial elemental, also known as a living image, with the Tarot Pentagram Spread.
First, since Fire is an active element, he used the Active Invoking Pentagram while laying down the foundation cards, starting in the lower right corner of the pentagram, moving to the upper left corner and continuing from there. After he placed all of the cards, he tapped each card in the direction of the Active Invoking Pentagram, making sure to tap the one in the position of Fire in the lower right corner to complete the pentagram.
Then he placed the Two of Wands in the middle of the pentagram, saying, "Two of Wands, Lord of Dominion, Mars in Aries," and tapped the card.
Then, since Aries is a Fire sign, and the Two of Wands represents Mars in Aries, Nathan placed The Emperor as a modifier on the Ace of Wands. As he was tapping the card, he stated, "The Emperor, Aries, the Monarch of the Golden Ages." After that, he placed The Tower over The Emperor and stated, "The Tower, Mars, the War at the World's End."
Then Nathan drew the Active Invoking Spirit Pentagram and the spirit wheel in brilliant white above the Two of Wands on the altar, charging the pentagram and the symbol in the usual way with the Sign of the Enterer. Next, he drew an Invoking Pentagram for Fire directly over the Spirit Pentagram, charging the pentagram and the symbol of Leo in the usual way. At that point, he imagined the symbol of Leo in the pentagram becoming the living image of the Two of Wands, and the man came alive as a full-length figure. As Nathan visualized the living image, he imagined that salamanders filled the living image while at the same time tiny points of winged light flowed from his own aura and filled the living image as well.
After gazing at the two cards for a moment, he stated, "Lord of Dominion, help me to experience the element of Fire within so that I may complete my quest to know all the spiritual forces of the Tree of Life."
Then he ended by saying, "So mote it be!" Before he finished the ritual, he imagined for a few minutes descending to the underworld and finding the Fire that would enable him to ascend to greater heights. Then he finished with the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.
From that point on, Nathan felt a Fire within that helped him get closer and closer to the completion of his quest.
