LORD OF EARNED SUCCESS
As Nathan was riding through the Tarot Realm, he noticed a boatman quietly and skillfully conveying a woman and child toward a distant shore. Suddenly Nathan had a vision of six swords standing in front of the woman and child in the bow of the boat. Were the swords in his vision suggesting that the woman and child were escaping some dangerous situation? Nathan couldn't be sure. The vision of the swords was startling, but the boatman remained focused on his task and his passengers remained calm.
Then Nathan remembered that a sword can symbolize the mind's ability to cut through what isn't important in order to focus on what truly matters. The fact that Nathan was envisioning six swords suggested that his vision had something to do with the sixth Emanation of sacrifice and harmonizing love known as Beauty. Nathan closed his eyes for a moment and tried to sense what forces might be influencing the situation. At first, he sensed the subtle force of The Sun, a force associated with Beauty, the sixth Emanation, but he also sensed other subtle forces. The boatman's pole, deep in the water pushing the boat forward, suggested a strong force of some kind, but Nathan wasn't sure what it was. Suddenly, he thought of Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, who helped communicate profound messages from deep in the soul into the individual conscious mind. Since the boatman was transporting the woman and child to a distant shore, Nathan also thought of Aquarius, a force that provides the ability to envision the future in imaginative and positive ways. These were just flashes of intuition, and Nathan realized that he needed to learn how to trust his intuition more, so he continued riding through the realm, hoping to find the King or Queen of Swords.
Impressed by the boatman, Nathan continued on his journey and came upon the Queen of Swords. Nathan dismounted and bowed as he approached the Queen. "I serve thee always, my Queen. I am here because I have a query."
The Queen gazed at him. "Yes, my devoted knight. What is your question?"
Nathan carefully described what he experienced by the lake. Then he stated, "I sensed the subtle forces of The Sun and Mercury and Aquarius. Can you tell me if I am right, your Highness? I need to know if I can trust my intuition."
Holding her sword straight up and down, the Queen responded, "One way to check the veracity of an intuition is to compare it with the mythological principle associated with the subtle force. For instance, do you remember the mythological principle associated with The Sun?"
Nathan thought for a moment. "Yes, it is 'The Awakening of the Mind.'"
"Do you see how that might apply to the situation?"
"Yes, your Majesty. Since The Sun is associated both with the sixth Emanation known as Beauty and with Path 30, which connects The Foundation, the ninth Emanation, with Splendor, the eighth Emanation, the principle of "Awakening of the Mind" suggests greater intellectual understanding as well as a greater openness to spiritual realities. Moreover, your Highness, sacrifice and harmonizing love, both associated with The Sun, are often important in accomplishing a significant task."
"Very insightful, my brave knight. Do you remember the mythological principle associated with Aquarius?"
"'The Awakening of the Heart, which indeed does apply because compassion is also often important in accomplishing a significant task." Nathan paused. "But there is something else: the opening of the heart can help a person imagine different ways of solving a problem and envisioning the future for the highest good. The subtle force of Aquarius can take you to distant shores that others have not yet even imagined."
"Yes, indeed, my devoted knight. Do you remember the mythological principle associated with Mercury?"
"Yes, your Highness. The mythological principle is 'The Creation of the World.' Each one of us creates the world through our ideas and beliefs and feelings every moment. Sometimes Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, sends profound messages that help us to create the world in a meaningful, productive, and harmonious way for the highest good. Mercury is associated with the Logos, the meaning at the heart of all creation, a meaning that manifests every moment in our realm."
"Well spoken. I think you can trust your intuition, my friend, but if you have any doubt, you can always go to the heart of the matter: the mythological principle."
"Yes, your Highness. Thank you for helping me understand and trust my intuitions. I serve thee always." Nathan bowed, then mounted his horse and rode into the forest to perform a ritual.
The holy man in the castle had told Nathan that he could use three modifiers associated with a Number Card in a Tarot Pentagram Ritual: two cards associated with the decan and one card corresponding to the Tree of Life. The holy man had confided that sometimes you want to focus on only one or two cards, but he emphasized that often three modifiers together can add great power to a Tarot Pentagram Spread, especially if you concentrate on the mythological principle in each card.
Nathan first identified the decan associated with the the Six of Swords, in this case The Star (Aquarius) and The Magician (Mercury), The Star representing the spiritual principle of "The Awakening of the Heart," and The Magician representing the "The Creation of the World." Then he decided to add The Sun because it represents "The Awakening of the Mind." Together they represent an awakened heart and mind that strives for balance and knows the harmony, abundance, and magnificence of the human spirit even during what might be considered mundane or insignificant tasks--or even during moments of crisis.
Nathan got ready to create an artificial elemental of the The Six of Swords with the Tarot Pentagram Spread. First, since Air is an active element, he used the Active Invoking Spirit Pentagram while laying down the foundation cards, starting in the lower right corner of the pentagram, moving to the upper left corner and continuing from there.
The Passive and Active Invoking Pentagrams
After he placed all of the cards, he tapped each card in the direction of the Active Invoking Spirit Pentagram, making sure to tap the one in the position of Fire in the lower right corner to complete the pentagram.
Then he placed The Six of Swords in the middle of the pentagram, saying, "The Six of Swords, Lord of Earned Success, Mercury in Aquarius, The Sun in Beauty," and tapped the card. Next, he included the three modifiers on the Ace of Swords: The Star, representing Aquarius; The Magician, representing Mercury; and The Sun.
As he placed the first modifier on the Ace of Swords, he said, "The Star, Aquarius, the awakening of the heart." Then he tapped the card. As he placed the second modifier on The Star, he said, "The Magician, Mercury, the creation of the world." Then he tapped the card. As he placed the third modifier on The Magician, he said, "The Sun, the awakening of the mind," and tapped the card.
Then Nathan drew the Active Invoking Spirit Pentagram and the spirit wheel in brilliant white above the Six of Swords on the altar, charging the pentagram and the symbol in the usual way with the Sign of the Enterer.
After that, he drew an Invoking Pentagram for Air directly over the Active Invoking Spirit Pentagram, charging the pentagram and the symbol of Aquarius in the usual way. At that point, he imagined the symbol of Aquarius becoming the living image of the figures in the Six of Swords, and they came alive as full-length figures. As Nathan visualized the living image, he imagined that sylphs flowed from the Archangel Raphael and filled the living image while at the same time tiny points of winged light flowed from his own aura and filled the living image as well.
After gazing at the cards for a moment, he stated, "Awaken my heart and mind so that I create a world of magnificence, harmony, and abundance for the highest possible good." Next he said, "Then return to the element of Air, doing no harm. So mote it be!" Before he finished the ritual, he imagined for a few minutes his heart and mind totally awakening so that he could create a world of magnificence, harmony, and abundance. Finally, he finished with the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.
From that point on, Nathan often unexpectedly experienced greater compassion and an expansion of consciousness, and he knew that he was experiencing magnificence, harmony, and abundance in his daily life.
